THE FUTURE OF RUGBY...
Global Rapid Rugby
A new format that will revolutionise the game of Rugby Union. This will be achieved by introducing new rules that will create a more open running version of the game. This exciting and faster brand of rugby, coupled with electric off-field entertainment will bring a new and energetic version of rugby that will capture and entertain the multitudes.
The Hunter Wildfires are a high-performance rugby centre that enables 30-35 new players from Australian rugby the opportunity to train and play professional sport. Our high-performance program will be aimed at deepening the base of professional rugby players within NSW and strengthening professional rugby in Australia.
Our program will be in key in achieving the following:
Breading the next generation of Wallabies
Launching a professional rugby team that engages with the Hunter region while also committing to long term activity which aids the growth of rugby and impacting local community initiatives
Developing players professional off-field careers
The Hunter Wildfires will set up their home at an iconic ground at McDonald Jones Stadium. This stadium is a part of the Hunter community and the future home of Global Rapid Rugby Rugby.
As the Hunter Wildfires/Country Eagles find opportunities to enter competitions like NRC and AON7s, we will look to engage local premier clubs and other venues in sharing the opportunity to host top level rugby.
The Hunter Wildfires will be working with Rugby Australia (RA) & NSWRU to take on the NSW Country Eagles in the 2019 NRC competition. This team will represent Sydney, NSW Country and the Hunter region. The opportunity of using the Hunter Wildfires facilities and staff will help NSW bring a stronger, more professional side to the NRC competition.
The Hunter Wildfires have opened discussions with Newcastle University to lobby Rugby Australia to be included in the 2019/2020 AON 7s. This will be the first step in building a professional Women’s rugby program that will grow the footprint of theHunter Wildfires while improving the depth of Women’s rugby in the Hunter.
Development & Academies
The Hunter Wildfires Rugby Academy & Development programs will be the first of their kind as they immerse themselves within the DNA of Hunter rugby. These programs will be aimed at growing rugby throughout the Hunter region and NSW. Identifying talented players and providing them with not only a pathway but programs that improve the player on and off the field. These programs will be run and driven with the current crop of professional coaches and players giving these players only the best opportunity at success and growth.
